Das Holzstück wird lebendig mit seinen Falten, Wellen, Spitzen und Rundungen. Dies ist keine figurative Kunst – die Hölzer sind naturbelassen, und ihr besonderer Charakter kommt in oft überraschender, manchmal bizarrer, immer zum Staunen anregender Weise zum Ausdruck.

Roots, branches, and tree trunks are the materials for Ika Hügel-Marshall's sculptures. Using woodworking tools, sandpaper, stain, varnish, and oil, she releases the forms and accentuates the grain.
In their folds, waves, points, and curves, these fragments of wood take on a strange but innate life-like appearance. This is not figurative art, for the wood retains its natural shape. The unique features, however, reveal themselves in often surprising and sometimes bizarre ways – never failing to elicit amazement.
